At least 1 in 4 admissions to an acute care hospital and 1 in 8 ED visits has a comorbid behavioral health condition. Integrating behavioral and physical health services can improve patient outcomes and workforce satisfaction and reduce the total cost of care. Integration is seen to reduce stigma and disparities, while improving access to behavioral healthcare. This session will provide evidence-informed examples of hospitals and health systems that have successfully integrated behavioral and physical health services, research, and thought leadership on the impacts of integrated care, as well as policy changes happening to support improved access through integrated care.

Learning Objectives:

  • Build a business case for integrating physical and behavioral health in primary and specialty care, including the ED and inpatient care.
  • Provide primary care practices and health systems with actionable, evidence-informed strategies and resources that inspire and enable clinicians to initiate and implement integration within their own primary care practices.
