Lessons Learned Expanding Primary Care Access at an Academic Medical Center Through a Community Physician Model
March 24, 2025 RecordingCentral Ohio is experiencing an unprecedented population boom, projected to reach 3.15 million by 2050. This growth, coupled with a shift toward value-based care, has significantly increased the demand for primary care services. A single mode of care expansion is inadequate to meet this burgeoning need. In response, OSU Physicians—the clinical practice arm of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center—has pioneered a novel primary care model. This innovative approach streamlines the employment of primary care providers, enhancing efficiency and provider satisfaction. As academic medicine evolves, a collaborative framework emerges where physicians dedicated to academic pursuits join forces with those serving the community. This synergy is pivotal in delivering cutting-edge, impactful patient care. This session will explore the hurdles encountered while forging this new direction and discuss the transformative effects our model has had on improving access to primary care.
Learning Objectives:
- Develop an understanding of the OSU Physicians Community Care model and how it provides an opportunity to advance the tripart mission of an academic medical center.
