In healthcare, effective Communication and Resolution Programs (CRPs) are essential in addressing harmful events with accountability, compassion and transparency. Leadership plays a pivotal role in setting the tone, allocating resources and fostering a culture that supports open communication with patients, families and providers which ensures learning from events that improve patient care. This session will explore the strategic and operational responsibilities of healthcare leaders in implementing and sustaining a CRP. Participants will gain insights into the competencies, mindsets and organizational structures needed to embed CRP principles into daily practice, ensuring patient trust and staff confidence. Understanding the role of leadership in implementation of the CRP across Johns Hopkins Medicine will underscore how strong leadership can transform harm events into opportunities for system-wide learning and improvement.

  • Explain the purpose, components and goals of a CRP and its importance to patient safety, ethical practice and organizational integrity.
  • Evaluate approaches for integrating and sustaining CRP principles within organizational culture and operations, aligning them with regulatory requirements, risk management objectives and quality improvement priorities.
