Richard Sewell, MPH, retired as associate dean of community and public health practice and clinical assistant professor in health policy and administration at the University of Illinois–Chicago School of Public Health in 2017. Sewell has a long history of involvement in health and human services policy formulation, management, and community affairs in the Chicago area. He was executive director of the health systems agency for suburban Cook County and DuPage County; founding president of the Suburban Primary Health Care Council, providers of the Access to Care Program; deputy commissioner of the Chicago Department of Public Health; and executive director of the Chicago Health Policy Council at the University of Chicago. Sewell was also senior vice president of United Way in Chicago, where he led the reform of the agency’s fund distribution system.
